both FX and DX format NIKKOR lenses. FX cameras can also use DX lenses
and automatically select the DX crop mode to avoid vignetting.
Discover new inspiration with a range of accessories
The Nikon D610 can be equipped with a variety of
accessories. In addition, powerful wireless connectivity support is
available for remote operation or for transferring images to a smart
device, including:Vital elements for a formidable machine: FX-format sensor, EXPEED 3, Picture Control and NIKKOR
The FX-format sensor, EXPEED 3
image-processing engine and NIKKOR lenses all come together to deliver
extraordinary image and video quality in the new D610. The FX-format
CMOS sensor yields wide dynamic range and reduced noise at high ISOs,
with its 24.3 effective megapixels rendering exquisite sharpness. NIKKOR
lenses help fully draw out the potential of the FX format, while
Nikon's EXPEED 3 — the same image-processing engine found in the D4 and
D800 series — can swiftly manage the large data files that an FX-format
sensor produces. During image processing, Nikon's original Picture
Control technology makes it simple to tailor the individual look and
feel of your stills and videos. And with enhanced auto white balance
accuracy for common shooting scenarios, the D610 reproduces colors as
natural and precise as they look in reality. Portrait photography has a
stunning three-dimensional look as well.
Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor — the high optical performance of NIKKOR lenses maximizes the advantage of high pixel count
The Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor
(35.9 x 24.0 mm) with 24.3 effective megapixels delivers stable, high
image quality at a wide ISO sensitivity range from ISO 100 to 6400
(expandable to ISO 50 to 25600 equivalent) utilizing large pixel pitch.
You can enjoy beautiful bokeh effects that only the FX format with its
large-size image plane can offer, while 14-bit A/D conversion and a high
signal-to-noise ratio deliver images with rich tonal gradation and
reduced noise. Combined with its high resolution, this achieves
high-quality images that can be enlarged or cropped. And what maximizes
the advantage of this high resolution are the NIKKOR lenses that deliver
superior optical performance. The vast array of the FX lens lineup
makes a wide variety of photographic expression possible. In movie
shooting, the abundant data from 24.3 megapixels produces full HD movies
with high definition.
EXPEED 3 image-processing engine, the same as used for the D4 and D800 series, realizes superior high-speed processing performance
The D610 incorporates EXPEED 3
image-processing engine, optimized for digital SLRs, the same as the D4,
D800 series. It processes data of 24.3 effective megapixels at high
speed. Nikon's very own Picture Control system is only made possible by
the EXPEED 3, helping you achieve the images and movies you want. It
excels at color reproduction, gradation processing and image quality at
high sensitivity. It reduces color phase shift and reproduces human skin
tone more faithfully. Furthermore, from image processing and SD card
recording to image playback and image transfer, EXPEED 3 manages massive
amounts of data at high speed. Even with specialized processing
features like Active D-Lighting and high ISO noise reduction, continuous
shooting speed is not sacrificed and the impact to the number of shots
in continuous shooting is minimized. EXPEED 3 supports Full HD D-Movie
of 1,920 x 1,080; 30p. It is possible to record movies with minimized
noise while maintaining resolution even at high ISO settings using the
noise-reduction function designed for movies.
14-bit A/D conversion and 16-bit image processing for rich tones
The D610 achieves reproduction of
rich tonal gradation by 16-bit image processing of the digital signal
resulting from 14-bit A/D conversion within the image sensor. Gradation
in highlight areas, which can be hard to reproduce, is rendered
smoothly.
Picture Control: capture images as you imagine them
The D610's Picture Control system lets you fine-tune
sharpening, contrast, saturation, hue, and various adjustments for
Monochrome, etc. in both still images and movies according to your
preference. Select one of six different modes — Standard, Neutral,
Vivid, Monochrome, Portrait and Landscape. It's also possible to save
adjustments as Custom Picture Controls, under your chosen name for
particular shooting scenarios.
Direct access to Picture Control for quick setting changes
Just by pressing the Picture Control button (doubles
as a retouch button) on the back of the camera, you can quickly access
the Picture Control setting display without entering a menu. During live
view, you can visually confirm on an LCD monitor how the image is
affected by Picture Control settings and easily adjust them.
Software
Image browsing/editing software — ViewNX 2
Supplied software ViewNX 2
provides importing and browsing capabilities of images and movies, and
incorporates frequently used image-editing functions such as resize and
brightness adjustment. Also, ViewNX 2 employs not only still-image
editing functions such as crop, straighten and RAW processing but also
movie-editing functions equivalent to those of the camera. In addition,
smooth coordination with Nikon image storing and sharing service, NIKON
IMAGE SPACE, is realized. This all-in-one browsing/editing software
package will allow more photographers to enjoy digital images and
movies, more easily.
Image-editing software — Capture NX 2 (optional)
Nikon's RAW images (NEF: Nikon
Electronic Format) maintain extremely rich data. Only Nikon's Capture NX
2 can fully utilize this data with its optimized file format and
software processing algorithms. With the enhanced processing speed of
the algorithms, processing time is shortened. This enables high-speed,
stress-free editing even if the data size is large. Also, Capture NX 2
supports 64-bit (native) to realize a comfortable working environment.
You can focus on editing with ease because it is possible to leave the
original image intact with NEF editing. In addition to the intuitive and
simple editing using Color Control Points, it incorporates various
functions such as Auto Retouch brush, Batch Processing, Quick Fix,
Straighten Tool, Vignette Control, Auto Color Aberration Control and
Distortion Control.

The defining power to maximize 24.3-megapixel resolution — NIKKOR
To best draw out the full
potential that a high-pixel-count digital camera can offer to render
high-resolution images, using a high-performance lens that compensates
various kinds of aberrations in a finely balanced way is of vital
importance. NIKKOR lenses feature superior optical performance and
excellent reliability, and are highly praised by professional
photographers all around the world. In addition to the high optical
performance, Nikon's original technologies such as Nano Crystal Coat and
VR render high-resolution and clear images to maximize the D610's
primary high resolution of 24.3 effective megapixels. Moreover, this
extensive, diverse lens lineup helps inspire the creative motivation of
photographers.
Your DX lenses, your assets
Thanks to Nikon's consistent F-mount design, the
D610 makes active use of almost every NIKKOR lens, including DX lenses
you may already own. Simply attach a lens to the D610, and the camera
automatically recognizes it, setting the required crop. Relatively
smaller DX lenses contribute to keeping the camera's total weight down —
a definite advantage when agility is a must.
